snowmobiling
our location, adjacent to more than 800 miles of
groomed snowmobile trail and unlimited backcountry
powder riding, ensures that snowmobiling is one
of the most popular winter activities for hatchet
guests. the resort rents snowmobiles with all the
requisite equipment. guided trips are offered from
the hatchet, or guests can explore on their own.
the options include riding through bottomless powder
snow on togwotee pass or cruising groomed routes
on the continental divide snowmobile trail or in
yellowstone national park. the resort is surrounded
on two sides by the continental divide snowmachine
trail.
wildlife
watching and photography
wildlife-watching has grown in popularity in recent
years. whether youâre out to capture beautiful
photographs or simply spot wild animals in their
native habitat, the valley surrounding the hatchet
resort is an excellent place to see elk, moose,
deer and, with a little bit of luck, bears and
wolves. our staff can easily point guests in the
right direction.
hunting
and fishing
at the hatchet resort, you're right in the heart
of some of the best big game hunting and fishing
country in the world. guests can hunt for elk,
moose, mule deer, mountain lion or bear, and blue-ribbon
trout fishing is close at hand. guided or on your
own.
cross-country
skiing and snowshoeing
hatchet guests can set out across unbroken fields
of powder snow, or glide along endless miles of
groomed track. many people opt to explore the national
forest directly adjacent to the resort, or the groomed
trails that cross the hatchet property. a 20-minute
drive east leads to the nearly 10,000-foot summit
of togwotee pass, where both skiers and snowshoers
can enjoy a more alpine environment along the continental
divide and unsurpassed views back toward jackson
hole. the interior road in grand teton national
park and signal mountain to moose, is a favorite
among skiers due to "no motorized vehicles" on the
track.
dog-sled
tours
for outdoor adventure of a completely different
sort, go mushing along the continental divide with
one of our outfitters. half- or full-day dog-sled
outings are available from late november through
early april, weather permitting. feel the wind on
your face as a powerful team of sled dogs whisks
you through the high country. the options include
an adventurous trip into a backcountry yurt for
lunch.
