visiting
the national parks
grand teton and yellowstone parks are located
3 and 33 miles (to park boundaries) away
respectively, so it requires only a short
drive to reach either park. few lodging
sites offer this ease of access to both
parks. fewer still offer all of the amenities
available at the hatchet resort. a perfect
route for a day in yellowstone from the
hatchet is driving the parkâs lower
loop, which takes visitors to the renowned
old faithful and upper geyser basin areas,
as well as the grand canyon of the yellowstone
and yellowstone lake. hatchet guests can
reach the stunning hikes beneath grand teton
national parkâs tallest peaks in half
an hour.
wildlife watching and photography
in the summer, many species of wildlife
head for the high country. nearby togwotee
pass allows hatchet guests to drive nearly
3,000 feet up into the mountains. togwotee
is great spot for using binoculars to glass
for wildlife. with a little luck, you can
even spot grizzly bears and wolves. the
valley that surrounds the hatchet is a great
place for taking photographs of moose, bison,
elk, deer, eagles, coyotes, and osprey,
which frequent the area year-round. our
staff can easily provide current recommendations
on where people are having luck seeing wildlife.
horseback
riding
get the feel for the old west by experiencing
it from the saddle. horseback rides that last
2 hours or all day are available for hatchet
guests. full-day rides in yellowstone park
are also available. in addition, one outfitter
who leads trips for resort guests is among
the few permitted to offer overnight trips
in yellowstone (advance reservations recommended).
fishing
blue-ribbon cutthroat trout streams cascade
through the wild country surrounding the hatchet,
and there’s also great lake fishing. the resort
can arrange guided fishing trips by car, on
foot or by horseback. guests who want to head
out on their own can consult at the front
desk for recommendations on current angling
hot spots.
hiking
with both wildlife-filled valleys and high-elevation
alpine terrain, jackson hole and the yellowstone
region offer some of the best hiking in
the world. there truly is something for
everyone. hikers can enjoy short walks through
rolling valley country or all-day and overnight
trips in mountainous terrain. wildlife sightings
are common while hiking in yellowstone country.
for a recommended hike designed for you
or your group, check in at the hatchet office.
we can also provide you with maps.

need to know where to go? they also provide
free advice. if youâre looking for a
guided scenic raft trip, thereâs excellent

and the hatchet can arrange your trip. whitewater
rafting excitement is also available farther
south on the snake river. resort booking is
also available for whitewater trips.
