with yellowstone
national park to the north, grand teton
national park to the west, the town
of jackson to the south, and the nearly
10,000-foot summit of togwotee pass
to the east, the hatchet resort’s truly
a one of a kind location. sitting at
roughly 7,000 feet above sea-level in
northern jackson hole, the site is surrounded
by mountain ranges rising in almost
all directions.
virtually all
of the high country nearby is protected
either as national park or national
forest. the bridger-teton national forest,
the largest national forest outside
alaska, which abuts the hatchet on several
sides, contains 3.4 million acres regionally.
the valley
where the hatchet sits is criss-crossed
by the buffalo fork of the snake river
and affords stunning views of the teton
range to the west. what little private
land exists in the area is located in
the valley bottom. several longtime
residents continue to run small cattle-ranching
operations here. there is virtually
no development in the surrounding area,
ensuring guests an idyllic western setting.
a number of the ranches, including the
hatchet property are preserved through
conservation easements. you are located
mid way between the town of jackson
and the south entrance to yellowstone
national park. the gate to grand teton
national park is only 8 miles west.
